1. Nile Crocodile
Scientific Name: Crocodylus niloticus
Topping the list is the Nile Crocodile. These creatures weigh up to 1000 pounds and have razor-sharp teeth. Their powerful jaws make it easier to inflict serious damage on humans.
Since crocodiles are apex predators, they don’t need any provocation before attacking a human. This is why you should be careful around the Nile, freshwater marshes, swamps, and rivers.
Most times, they are difficult to spot due to their ability to camouflage perfectly. So always be on guard.
2. Common House Mosquito
Scientific Name: Culex pipiens
Trust me when I say these little flying insects pose more threat than what we have at number 3. Mainly because they are difficult to control due to the humid and tropical climate of Egypt.
Although they are not as intimidating as crocodiles, they carry diseases such as Zika, dengue fever, and West Nile virus.
The best way to protect yourself is to come prepared with long sleeves and trousers. A good mosquito repellent will be helpful.
3. Saharan Horned Viper
Scientific Name: Cerastes cerastes
Just the name alone tells you that this snake is intimidating. It is a venomous viper and has other names like the horned desert viper.
This snake is one of the most dangerous in Egypt and probably Northern Africa. They can easily camouflage with their environment, and this makes them harder to spot.
4. Red Spitting Cobra
Scientific Name: Naja pallida
This is another venomous snake that is found in the city of Hurghada. This cobra can spit venom accurately up to six feet away.
Although they will not actively seek out humans, it is best to be on the lookout for them.
5. Lionfish
Scientific Name: Pterois miles
For people who will be going swimming in the open waters in Hurghada, watch out for the Lionfish. This fish is known for its venomous spines, which can cause extreme pain, swelling, and even paralysis.
